That's pretty major! I would definitely worry a bit about Vultr for production at this point. We are using it in this one instance for something internal that has a good amount of ability to go offline for a while without it being an issue. Vultr is saving us a fortune in this instance.

Amazon and Azure are really the big players now for production stuff. Rackspace is there but their quality is definitely lagging. We still use them (for ML for example) but are using them less and less. I've run into almost non-stop issues with using them for anything of scale. Their support is just so poor.

And, in this case, who offers a truly UK cloud IaaS product? All of the key players are American.

I agree that the term "unlimited" is often abused though. I don't know if it's the same in the US, but we had a big problem over here with ISPs offering "unlimited" internet usage that was actually capped. I think the term was "Unlimited - subject to fair usage policy" where fair usage was an arbitrary figure set by the ISP.

Is that not protected by the Trades Description Act?

Damn. Yeah they had me snookered. At least to the benefit of the doubt level.

Yeah. I used them for a while and when it worked, it was good. But by the time they started trying to bill me for the maintenance or whatever, I had already stopped using them due to the number of problems.

Thank you for the follow up on this issue. After closer review, it appears the build failed to complete. This resulted in the droplet not being created. You will want to re-attempt creating the droplet. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know.

CloudAtCost has completely revoked their "free for life" products that people have already paid for in full and is now simply charging for them - even ones that customers already own. Customers are now being extorted to pay annually for something they were sold specifically so that they would not have to pay for in this way. The service is no longer a scam on the technical level, it is now a full scam on the billing and marketing level as well.

@Mike-Ralston admins some already. He built one in the NTG lab last week.

It's currently undergoing some changes, as a server cannot realistically be run with more than a few people without any plugins. I'll get right on working on it more, though!

How come they don't fail over the VMs to another server, then update the original server move them back and so on as to make it an update with no down time?

Cloud is not high availability. That's a very common misconception. Cloud is beneath the HA layer. Anyone who had HA stayed up and running, of course, but cloud itself is not HA.

They easily could have chosen to do so, but the workload would not offset the cost I am sure.

Not really, because you can only do so much HA at that layer. Not every workload can be made HA in that way. But more importantly, HA is always an option and most importantly, HA is something you do, not something that you buy. But anyone who had an outage, like us, chose to not pay for HA because it is cheaper to have blips than to have the cost of HA.

It's really the end users who opted out of HA.
